While The Treasury is probably the most photographed and recognizable façade of Petra, “Ad Deir,” or the Monastery, is just as impressive – the stop-you-in-your-footsteps kind of impressive. Tucked away on a plateau on the other side of the Petra complex, past the worn Colonnaded Street, the magnificent ruins of the Great Temple, the former dipping pool of the Nabateans, and a camel rest station, is the magnificent Ad Deir. From our journal: “After hiking some 800 steps we were greeted by the spectacular façade of Ad Deir. There was a Bedouin woman tending to a small herd of goats and just a handful of tourists. We took a seat and marveled at the size and symmetry and couldn’t believe that we could be in the presence of and marvel at this magnificent piece of history.” Brett took this shot with his Canon EOS 6D using a 24-70 lens.
