Rhapis Koban, ‘The Puffy Leaf Japanese Lady Palm’ Tropical ‘Koban’ is native to South China and Taiwan.  This distinctive "Puffy Leaf" palm is grown as a dwarf 'Collector's' variety reaching ultimate heights of only 8 feet with 1 inch diameter multi-stemmed clumps. It has a wide, short, stiff leaf blade that has a very ornamental “puffed” appearance and edges that curve downward. As the plants age, the sheaths fall away revealing bamboo-like trunks.  'Koban' is low maintenance, drought tolerant, and prefers partial shade in slightly acidic to neutral soils. ‘Koban’ is cold hardy, withstanding temperatures down to 20 degrees fahrenheit without damage.
