Rhapis Multifida Palm Tree Rhapis Multifida is a medium size clumping palm endemic to South-Central China and surrounding areas. It was first collected by the Japanese for Tokugawa shogunate palaces. Rhapis palms are sometimes referred to as dwarf fan palms. Rhapis palms are very low maintenance which accounts for this palm's popularity! They require very little light to thrive, are very drought tolerant and not susceptible to health issues. Rhapis Multifida is also very adaptable to many soil types although slightly acid soils with good drainage and organic matter is recommended.  Rhapis Multifida is the finest of 'patio palms'. It doesn't get too large but if necessary can be reduced by thinning out the clustering stems. R. Multifida has many more leaflets than other Raphis varieties and is often considered the prettiest of the genus. This palm, as is the case with most Rhapis species is an understorey plant so for best results a partially shaded spot under trees or a pergola is idea
