Perch of Serenity, 2024

Perch of Serenity, 2024 As I explore more bird species, the toucan has been on my list for a while. The biggest challenge with this composition was the colorful bill. There are no rules in assemblage work, except that this format has to fit inside the mold for encapsulation. So, I could've search for fewer, larger pieces that reflected the colorful bill of the keel-billed toucan, or I could opt for using many smaller pieces together to implicate the overall form of the bill. With this direction I was able to create the semblance of a gradient of colors throughout the bill.  Found objects (vintage camera and electro-mechanical parts), pressure-cast urethane resin, custom brackets, custom designed frame (mdf, aluminum, acrylic, stainless and nylon hardware).
