Historically speaking, black was the de rigueur color to effectively broadcast aggressive connotations on the part of the wearer, but, in practice, wearing white proved to be a much more effective way of provoking violent incidents. On the rare occasions where she had to seek out a job, she would “audition” by heading down to the club with the worst reputation in the most dangerous part of the city, wearing freshly cleaned white. It never took very long for someone to decide it would be amusing to befoul the white jacket with readily available grime; it took even less time for that person to get a taste of the razor nails.
