Lunar New Year Kimono

Japan and China have a long history of exchange. The countries share many cultural traditions, and historically Japan celebrated Lunar New Year, however during the Meiji Era (late 19th-early 20th c.) the Japanese government moved towards Westernization by adopting the Gregorian calendar (with the New Year beginning on January 1). This one of a kind kimono is made from a badly damaged synthetic brocade kimono and features giant spider mums, and is embellished with gold and black embroidery at the collar and red sequins all over, evoking a celebratory feeling.
