Circe (Myths Suite), 1985
"Circe" is an expertly crafted hand-signed serigraph on paper created by Erté for his "Myths" suite. "Circe", based on the 1924 gouache "Les Noces d'Or" currently held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY (a costume design for "Les Mariages“ George White's Scandals), evokes Circe in the radiant glory associated with her status as daughter of the god Helios. An extravagant headdress with flowing, brilliant gold drapery streaming behind her and the repeated motif of sun disks create a regal presence for the semi-divine enchantress most famous for turning Odysseus’s crew into swine on the island of Aeaea. From the edition of 525, the artworks image size is 30.25 x 21.37". The artwork ships framed in a contemporary black frame and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Martin Lawrence Galleries is an affiliate of Erté's publisher Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts. This print is therefore as new, with no prior ownership, coming straight from the publisher.
