Diana (Myths Suite), 1985
"Diana" is an expertly crafted hand-signed serigraph on paper created by Erté for his "Myths" suite. "Diana" is based on the 1923 gouache "Le Gloire" currently held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY and created as a costume design for "L'Or" at the Ziegfield Follies - 'Gold Costume Design with Olive Branch Headress and Armlets.“Erté’s fanciful depiction of the great goddess Diana borrows the olive branches associated with Athena/Minerva and forms them into a stunning, radiating headdress, suggestive of the Moon which she rules. From the edition of 525, the artworks image size is 30.25 x 19.5". The artwork ships framed in a contemporary black frame and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Martin Lawrence Galleries is an affiliate of Erté's publisher Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts. This print is therefore as new, with no prior ownership, coming straight from the publisher.
