They eliminate the need to find the shear line on each pin by pushing the pin stacks completely out of the plug (allowing it to rotate freely). They are a great tool to have on-hand when speed is important. To use, select the correct comb (based on pin count, spacing, and pin length) and insert it into the lock. Push the pins out of the plug and turn the pick like a key.
