"Millefiori" Plate in Red

Millefiori literally means "thousand flowers" and is a type of glass mosaic invented almost a thousand years ago in Venice. After taking a trip to the lagoon and witnessing the production of millefiori firsthand, we decided to meticulously reproduce their colors and shapes for the creation of this pattern. Throughout the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the Millefiori technique was a state secret of the Republic of Venice, along with many other techniques like the production of crystal and Venetian mirrors. The glassmaking guild guarded its secrets so closely that anyone who divulged them faced the prospect of death.
