"Moyen Age" Tote
This playful bag perfectly represents our philosophy that history can be modern and cool! Its design is not your typical medieval marginalia, in fact it comes from a very interesting source, an antique book of design. Albert-Charles-Auguste Racinet, an accomplished artist that lived in the 1800's, took on the encyclopedic mission to "map" the decorative arts from antiquity to the eighteenth century, from cultures all over the world, like a bible of the visual arts. To do this, a number of skilled commercial artists of the day created "plates" from a great variety of mediums, including wood, metal, textiles, painting, and pottery. Although based on past masterpieces of design, the fantastic reproductions in L'Ornement polychrome, became works of art in their own right and had a huge success. Indeed, for Racinet, the purpose of such a compilation of past design excellence was not only to celebrate the masters of the past but also to inspire the decorative arts in his own day and age. Th
