Automatism: Face

Ink painting titled Automatism: Face. Dimensions are 12 x 9 inches (30.5 x 22.7 cm).  Staring at a blank paper or canvas is the most stressful part of creating a new piece for me. Whether I have an idea or not, the first mark is the hardest to make. With this Automatism series, I sat with my watercolors and ink and let my mind wander. Without thinking, I made my first mark and let it go where it would. This is easiest for me to do on the pottery wheel and I'm thankful for moments when I can channel that fluidity into my paintings as well.
