Yoshitoshi - The Old Warrior Tomobayashi Rokuro Mitsuhira

Yoshitoshi Portrait of the elderly warrior Tomobayashi Rokuro Mitsuhira in the countryside. He grips a spear in one hand and a chrysanthemum in the other as he looks over his shoulder, a white sash tied around his forehead. He wears a suit of armor over a blue kimono tucked into patterned pants, his swords at his side and his feet bare. Number 19 from the series 'Kinsei Jimbutsushi (Personalities of Recent Times). The series features illustrations of a wide variety of personalities from contemporary, and historical times. The portraits are considered exceptional in execution relative to other news nishiki-e prints. Yoshitoshi produced these prints as furoku, or supplements, to certain issues of the Yamato Newspaper.
