Kuniyoshi - 100 Warriors - Spider

Utagawa Kuniyoshi  This is a color, two page spread from Kuniyoshi's book featuring 100 warriors from history and legend. Almost all the ukiyo-e artists also illustrated books as well as designing woodblock prints and paintings. This scene is from the story of Minamoto no Yorimitsu facing the tsuchigumo or earth spider. He fell ill with a fever and dreamed of an earth spider - he struck at it with his sword and recovered from his fever.  Size of each page: 4.25"x 6.5"Size of spread: 8.5" (W) x 6.5"(H) Date: 1850's Condition: Not backed, borders as shown, some dirt as shown. Both pages are separate, not glued.
