45 Flavors of Honey Stick Joy
Who invented the honey stick? Excellent question, Queen Bee 🍯 — and a surprisingly sticky one! The modern honey stick — those slim, sealed tubes filled with single servings of golden sweetness — was invented and patented in the 1970s by Utah beekeeper J.M. Hatch of Bee International in Draper, Utah. In 1978, Hatch filed a U.S. patent for a “sealed straw-like package containing honey or syrup.” His simple idea revolutionized how people enjoyed honey — turning a sticky kitchen staple into a no-mess, on-the-go treat loved by hikers, travelers, and tea drinkers alike. The concept spread quickly. Small farmers could now offer “tastes of the hive” without jars or spoons, and gift shops and fairs discovered that honey — in a straw — was pure joy to sell. So while beekeepers had long shared samples by hand, it was J.M. Hatch who made it official, giving the world a sweet, portable smile in every straw.
