Fontainebleau by Gorham Sterling Silver Letter Knife, Very Rare, 54 g
We are offering... an exceedingly rare Gorham Sterling Silver Letter Knife in the Fontainebleau pattern, designed by the french designer, F. Antoine Heller for Gorham in 1882. It is marked "Sterling" and has the Gorham silver marks including a Lion and Anchor and the letter G. This pattern depicts various figures of the French court of Fontainebleau. It is representative of the Beaux Arts aesthetic which drew upon the principles of French neoclassicism, but also incorporated Renaissance and Baroque elements. It was an important style in France until the end of the 19th century. Approx.
