Green Sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus)
Green sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus) are an attractive species of sunfish originally native to the Great Lakes region, the Hudson and Mississippi river basins south to the Gulf Coast and west to the Rio Grande river. However they have been introduced throughout much of United States and even in several other countries around the world. Be sure to NEVER release or stock this species in the wild as they are extremely adaptable and can compete heavily for resources within an environment. They are popular for sport and eating amongst panfish anglers and widely used as bait by fishermen targeting bass, pike, and catfish.
