Western Mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis)

Western mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis) are a small, widely distributed species of livebearer originally native to the Gulf Coast and lower Mississippi drainages. They have become invasive well outside of their native range in the United States and in many other countries around the world due to being implemented as a form of biological mosquito control. Because of this it is VERY important to NEVER release these fish into the wild. Gambusia are also a popular feeder fish and are a much healthier alternative to goldfish and rosey red minnows.  Currently available animals are field-collected and have gone through a preventative quarantine and treatments.  Care Level: Beginner.
