It may include a well or borehole, hand pump, filtration system or storage pond, as well as community training to ensure the water source is maintained and benefits families for the long term. How your gift helps Alem lives with her family in the Ada District of Ethiopia. One of eight children, her parents farm a small pocket of land to make a living. Alem’s family and the rest of her local community now have access to a clean and reliable water source after a new borehole was constructed in their village as part of a project by TEAR’s partner the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church. Alem’s father is on the local committee that is trained to maintain and manage the borehole and make sure it keeps running smoothly so the community can enjoy the ongoing benefit of safe, clean water.
