MONTANA ELK BARKTAN13 SQUARE FEET DOCK ROOT AND FINISHED WITH MIMOSADense, semi-thick, no stretchGreat for belts, bags, chaps, vests, winter clothing ZERO STUPID CHEMICALS ARE USED EVER   Materials:Hand harvested dock root along the road (Rumex sp.)Mimosa from @traditional_tanners Sunflower LetichinMontana grown Organic safflower oil from @oil_barn_lady Montana Elk hide   Here is a pretty dang cool barktanned with a currently unknown species of Rumex, or otherwise known as Dock.  It might be the Tanners Dock species or the Rumex hymenosepalus which is native to Montana. I spent several hours harvesting this root out by the Missoula Airport this summer, and this is the root used for the tanning.  Then chopping and drying the roots in the open air. It’s been barktanning for about 4 months since the temps were low in the solution.   The original color twas an epic buckskin yellow, and the mimosa used for the last month of tanning darkened the color, yet it’s still lovely and beautiful.
