Fifty foot flatcars were introduced when railroads found that the customers they served were making bigger loads that required larger cars, either in capacity or loading size. Flatcars of this nominal length quickly became the standard size for general service flatcars and most served in revenue service for nearly 50 years, with some later being used in non-revenue service giving them a longer service life than most other generic use cars. When the full effects of the Chessie System started to be felt across the systems operated by the Baltimore & Ohio, Chesapeake & Ohio, and Western Maryland, they faced a crisis of identity that could only be solved by repainting the fleet. This decal set is for covering the Chessie repainted fleet of 50 foot long general service 70 Ton flatcars manufactured for all three railroads.
