Granular Hide Glue

Hide Glue is an animal hide glue which is used extensively in furniture repair and production. Also used to bond china, glass and cloth. Granular version is for those who prefer to prepare their own hide glue. Purchase a pre-made liquid version here. Soak the grains in water for 2 or more hours, and then heat mixture to 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) to fully liquefy for application.  These glues are often used in historical furniture repair but can also be used as a sizing agent. The light color ordinarily prevents staining and produces invisible glue lines that finish well. Setting speed is moderate with plenty of working time. Very strong, but reversible. Two versions are available:  granular hide glue (multiple hide sources) and rabbit skin glue.  The Granular Hide Glue has a gram (bloom) strength grade of 222 grams.  The Rabbit Skin Glue has a gram (bloom) strength grade of 400 grams.
