Wood & SonsBurslem EnglandWoodland 4 PIECE COMPLETE SET  BLUE TRANSFER WARE covered Soup Tureen, handled platter and original ladle.Woodland is one of the hard to find patterns by Wood & Sons that draws me in every time I look at the beautiful pastoral scenes depicted on these pieces.  The platter depicts a young boy on horseback preparing to go plough the fields and a woman, perhaps his Mother, carrying a basket back toward their farmhouse.  The family dog is  between the two, looking up at the boy. The border is absolutely stunning...a feathery plume of leaves and woodland flowers brilliantly detailed.  Tab Handles and indentation on the platter which helps keep the soup tureen in place.  The tureen details a landscape scene with a castle in the distance and florals matching the border.  The ladle, which is extremely difficult to come by, has a cottage scene in the bowl and the handle is painted with blue accents.  This is a really beautiful set!
