Phlox pilosa (Prairie Phlox) reaches about two feet high and begins blooming in May.  Through evolution, they are perfectly paired for butterflies.  The petals have developed a tailored landing pad and the long tubular flower is perfectly designed for the long proboscis of the butterfly.  Cool! They are quite striking too with varying colors from white to a deep purple.
