Per Natural Resources All Families Foundation, an "established doula" has worked with a minimum of 25 families as a birth and/or postpartum doula within the past 5 years.  As you may have heard, hospitals are now regularly requesting proof of certification to ensure birthing people are working with individuals who are knowledgeable about current birth, postpartum, lactation, and newborn care practices, and many insurance companies are requiring certification for coverage of doula fees. Requirements for recertification every 5 years are becoming the standard. As a result, more families are looking for a certified Doula to support them in the birth and postpartum period.
