Cunard Line: A large agency poster promoting cruises on the MAURETANIA in the early 1960s. The poster measures 25" by 39.5" and comes from the Bill Miller Collection. Although undated, it is from the early to mid 1960s when, in a desperate move to keep the passengers coming, the old gal was given a coat of CARONIA's "Cruising Green".  In this poster the paint is worn and rust-streaked. So dull is the hull that the MAURETANIA looks more like a WW2 troopship than a 1960s cruise liner.  In this view she reminds me of her namesake, the MAURETANIA of 1907, when she sailed to the breakers with her cruising white livery bleeding rust. In 1965 Captain Treasure Jones sailed this MAURETANIA to the breakers and described it as the most traumatic experience of his life. Good condition with 3" rip on both top and bottom edges.
