The 1920s to the 1960s are considered the golden era of pictorial maps in America. Wildly popular, these maps highly creative, whimsical and detailed maps covered history, geography and culture and occupy a unique category in the evolution of cartography. One important New England contributor to this field was the LeBaron-Bonney Company-founded by the Atheron Brothers, Lebaron and Jack in the 1930s and operated out of a number of Massachusetts Northshore communities such as Newburyport, Bradford, Haverhill and Amesbury.
