View Accompanying Genealogical Chart This beautiful sheet featuring two maps of Turkey (the Ottoman Empire) was issued hand-colored for the third American edition of Lavoisne’s Genealogical Historical Chronological and Geographical Atlas. The maps detail the empire in Europe and in Asia, including Greece, Hungary and the Balkan region, the Black Sea region, and much of the Middle East.  The map on the left depicts the extent of the Ottoman Empire in the early 19th century in Europe and Asia, including Hungary and Moldavia in the north and west and extending to include all of Greece and its closest neighbors, the heel of Italy, and western Anatolia. The map on the right depicts the Ottomans’ reach into the Middle East, extending to Circassia in the northeast and Iraq in the southeast. Both maps depict topographical features such as mountain ranges, lakes and river systems, and include insets with place names.
