View Accompanying Map This fine portfolio sheet was created to accompany the folio sheet preceding it in Lavoisne’s Atlas which features two maps, one focused on Denmark and the other on Norway, Sweden and what is now Finland. The sheet was issued hand-coloured for the third American edition of Lavoisne’s Genealogical Historical Chronological and Geographical Atlas. It features extended family trees depicting the lineage of the Family of Holstein, which included fourteen kings of Denmark, three emperors of Russia, and four kings of Sweden.  Text in the bottom half of the sheet provides detailed information under the heading History of Denmark from the Election of Christian I, to the Year 1821. This text describes historical events and sovereigns of Denmark from the year 1157 CE during the reign of Waldemar I, to 1814 under the rule of Frederick VI, who lost Norway to Sweden. Alongside this text is a detailed account entitled History of Sweden, from the Twelfth Century to the Year 1821.
