This brightly colored Turner folding pictorial map in French depicts the Gaspesie Peninsula in Canada, and covers the territory from Saint Simeone in Quebec to the Saint Laurence Bay and the Baie des Chaleurs, and from the Sageunay region of Quebec to Maine. A myriad of vignettes on the map depict themes and events, both historical and modern, from the sixteenth century to the twentieth. Founding of settlements in the region by European colonists is referenced, as are numerous historical events including the 1814 British invasion and occupation of northern Maine, in which timber for the masts for Nelson’s flotilla was harvested in New Brunswick, and the planting of a cross by Jacques Cartier in which he claimed the region in the name of France. Also depicted are examples of the abundant wildlife of the region, including moose, deer, fish, wolves, bears and wild geese. All settlements on the coastline of New Brunswick are depicted in detail including churches, ports and lighthouses. All
