Pair of French Empire Mahogany Bergeres / Jacob Desmalter

A pair of French Empire mahogany chairs (originally part of a larger suite), two bergeres, stamped IACOB, François-Honoré-Georges Jacob Desmalter  (France, 1770-1841) principal supplier of furniture to the Emperor, the chairs are also marked with the iron “N” in a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon GARDE-MEUBLE Impérial (Furniture Repository) each chair has graceful carved swans supporting the arms and each terminates in paw feet (front), sabre legs in back, recently upholstered in a neutral fabric, the use of swans as a decorative motif indicate that this suite of chairs was intended for use in a bed chamber, Paris, France, circa 1813-1825    36.75” H x 27” W x 31.25” D 20.5” seat height / 27” arm height   $14,500.00 the pair
