A Family in Peril: Meet Spirit & His Band Let us walk you through the story of the bonded family of horses we met, and were able to bring to sanctuary, thanks to incredible people like YOU! This boy caught my eye first- he was emaciated, cut up, and wearing a huge tag labeled STUD. He was getting run around and beat up constantly in the pen full of thirty or forty horses almost the entire time we were there observing! He went onto our list immediately. He reminded me of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron. You can just sense how much he does not belong here, he does not belong in this captive, scary place!!! I decided to name him Spirit. Then, we noticed that when he was allowed by the other horses to settle down, he always went back over to his mare and baby, all three of them absolutely looking defeated and far too skinny. They look like a family of reservation mustangs- their thin wiry frames and long legs a dead giveaway. We named the mare Destiny and her filly, Hope!  Th
