Background The Orchidaceae family includes the flowering plant Acriopsis liliifolia. Found from sea level to under 1600 meters in altitude in lowland swamps and montane forests, as well as semi-deciduous and deciduous dry lowland forests at elevations of sealevel to 700 meters, in Thailand, Indochina, Malaysia, Indonesia, Borneo, Sulawesi, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Northern Australia, and the Philippines. This epiphytic orchid has a symbiotic relationship with ants and requires moderate shade, humidity, and hot to warm circumstances with a dry time while not developing and then plenty of water while in growth. Boiling the plant and creating a broth that is eaten orally has been used in Java as a cure for fevers brought on by malaria.
