kiln formed glass 7" x 14" 25" Locus refers to the point of focus. This form was inspired by bundled Nanbuhouki brooms made in Kunohe Japan, which use wavy tipped broomcorn grown in cold climates. Nanbuhouki are particularly good at sweeping dust. Just as fibers are impacted by the environment in which they are harvested, the process of pulling glass cane is impacted by climate and especially the mood of the people stretching the glass. This broom is an aggressive shadow caster. It is active, brash, and difficult to fully see— we understand its form more fully through its shadows.  The boundaries between plant, animal and mineral are blurred in my forms. I explore how material and shape contain information and convey history. My work strives to dissolve binary thinking— clear glass helps me achieve this by challenging the viewer’s ability to see the objects with static comprehension.
