Mr. Nobody, a figure in PEM’s internationally significant collection of Chinese export porcelain. Made in Jingdezhen in the 1690s, Mr. Nobody was one of the first representations in Chinese porcelain of a European. As you can see, Mr. Nobody quite literally has no body. He was based on an English earthenware figure, which was in turn inspired by a woodcut image in an Elizabethan play. Published in the 1590s, the play Nobody and Somebody satirized class inequality in England. --- This reproduction of Mr. Nobody stands 9.5" tall. The removable hat acts as a sort of lid for the hollow body! Dimensions: 9.5 x 6.5 x 6 inches. Made in China
