This is an original 1722 black and white copper engraving of "Antonius Freiherr von Rabatta," also known as Antony baron de Rabata, Governor of Gradisca, Councilor, and Chamberlain to the Holy Roman Emperor, who dispatched him to the Princes and Republics of Italy to request they unite in fighting a common enemy during the Thirty Years' War. Antonius holds a piece of paper in his right hand in the portrait, perhaps as an indication of this vitally important duty. The portrait is surrounded by a wonderful decorative motif featuring a bold geometric design along the borders and two oppositionally placed sphinxes framing an intriguing, stylized face.CONDITIONThis 289+ year old Item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine+.
