California Building. The California Building was the host building of the fair and housed the administrative offices. It was designed in the Mission style of architecture by Thos. H. F. Burditte of San Francisco and cost $2,000,000. Period Paper is pleased to offer a spectacular collection of some of the most coveted images of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. The Panama-Pacific International Exposition was a world's fair held in San Francisco, California between February 20 and December 4 in 1915. Officially, the exposition was a celebration of the completion of the Panama Canal and the discovery of the Pacific Ocean by the Spanish explorer Balboa, but it was also an opportunity to showcase the city's recovery from the 1906 earthquake. The 635 acre fair was located in the part of San Francisco now known as the Marina. The Tower of Jewels, 45 stories tall, was most recognizable building of this fair. CON
