This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of a steel cable pulling Italian war supplies across the Alps. The caption writes, "Practically all the supplies of the Italian army on the Trentino front had to be transported in the fashion here shown. Only the lightest ammunition could be dragged up the mountains by men and beasts. The whole topography of that region is represented by one mountain range after another. Hence this heavy cable, typical of many used in that precipitous district.
