A wonderful cotton indigo saki-ori farmer's vest from northern Japan. Sashiko stitching details around the neck and along seams, full length indigo lapel.  Saki-ori is the traditional Japanese technique of rag weaving where worn out cloth and garments are torn into thin strips and woven into fabric. These warm fabrics were most often used for working clothes, obi and blankets.  Good condition for age Small tear along left side of lapel 35" x 25" (length, width) Circa early 1900s All wear, marks or mending are unique to this antique handwoven textile.
