Voortrekker 18" Doll Clothes Pattern
The Voortrekkers (Afrikaans and Dutch for pioneers, literally “fore-movers”) were Afrikaner emigrants who left the original colony during the 1830s and 1840s and moved into the interior of what is now known as South Africa. This was called “The Great Trek”. With this PDF pattern you can make a simple pioneer dress with a Basque waist and peter pan collar. To complete the outfit are the patterns to sew bloomers, a bonnet and shawl. The dress closes with hook and loop tape in the back. Recommended Fabrics: Light weight to medium weight fabric. Quilt Cotton. Supplies Needed:-Dress Fabric – 18” x 44”-Bonnet, Bloomer, Shawl and Collar Fabric – White – 14” x 44”-hook and loop tape – 5” (5/8” width – cut in half to get about ¼” wide)-3/8” Wide Elastic – 10.5” (for bloomers waist) -¼” Wide Elastic – 8” (For dress wrists)-Optional – 20” of 3/8” wide ribbon for bonnet ties (if you are not sewing fabric ties)-Lace – 40” of ½”-3/8” wide-Thread-Fabric Pencil or Pen Marker-Iron and ironing bo
