Abutilon 'Ann' is another in the series of little-known flowering maple hybrids. Emerging from the ground in spring, the dark, black-purple stems reach 3' tall, adorned with fuzzy green maple-like foliage. Beginning in late summer, the clumps are adorned with dozens of 2" wide plum-red (RHS 61C) bell-like flowers. As the flowers age, they change to a soft apricot color (RHS 44D). When growing these outdoors in cold climates, well-drained soil in the winter is a must, and do not cut the plants back in fall.
