Renee Audebes (b.1921). A French Mid-Century Abstract painter widely exhibited in France and abroad, but most notably in Paris. Audebes studied under Jean Metzinger in Paris and was initially influenced by Surrealism. He later became a significant member of the Post-War Abstract movement in Paris. Post-War Abstraction is described as hard-edged, geometric painting that challenged the highly subjective mode of painting at that time. Of highlight is Audebes residency as a Professor at the Academie Frochot in Paris - host to a long line of well known artists. Audebe's work is a listed artist and frequently realized in auction houses today. This beautiful piece is a wonderful example of Mid-Century abstraction in France. The artwork is oil on paper with a rich surface and textural impasto technique. The reverse is signed and dated 1970 by the artist.
