Olympia is one of the more exceptional collections we have curated to date. This set of classical academic drawings from the late 1800's and early 1900s features beautifully proportioned and rendered Greek/Roman statues as is classic for academic drawings of this time. Of notable exception is that most works are signed by the same listed French artist Jane Grevey. The exception is one signed and dated 1890. Executed in charcoal, these pieces exemplify Classicism at its finest. Academic drawings like this, notably from the prestigious Ecole de Paris, were integral to the coursework designed for mastering the human figure. This artwork, undoubtedly in the manner of Jacques-Louis David, showcases the French artist's Neoclassical style that prominently featured Greek and Roman busts.
