Tex carved this sculpture while he was here in Portland, Oregon. Portland is the City of Roses, and he was staying with Rose and Cecil Quintana who had a magnificent rose garden with many antique varieties. He was inspired! This piece was acquired by the Quintana's for their private collection. This is the first time this sculpture has been offered for sale. Mandan/Hidatsa sculptor Tex Wounded Face was born on May 9, 1955 in Walford City, west of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota. Wounded Face received his elementary education in North Dakota, and was admitted to the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM in 1971. From 1971-72, he studied stone sculpture with the renowned Fort Sill Apache Indian artist and educator, Allan Houser. Wounded Face openly
