1690s Stays — Steel Boned (Discontinued)
Style discontinued: we are no longer making new orders in this style. All remaining stock is on discounted sale. Designed to be worn under mantuas and similar gowns of the late 17th century and early 18th century, our 1690s stays are a new "favourite" among historical costumers. The fashionable silhouette of the period required a rigid foundation, like these stays, to create an elongated conical torso with a wide décolletage and straight front. The long cut-in-one tabs and higher top and back edges set this style apart from our other 18th century stays, and the straps perch just on the point of the shoulder—a holdover from the wide necklines of the late 17th century. A removable wooden busk ensures a straight center front.
