11-Inch Antique Mercury Glass Candle Holder

In the 19th-century, mercury glass was used as an alternative to more costly silver. Developed as a means of offering more affordable decor, mercury glass came to have its own intrinsic value as a result of its delicate beauty. Mercury glass is created by painting a layer of silvering formula between two layers of hand blown glass. Often etched with floral or other motifs, it was employed to make vases, goblets and candlesticks.
