This portrait represents a young Florentine whose identity is not known but who could belong to the Medici family. He corresponded to the ideals of beauty and fashion in the Florentine aristocracy of the Quattrocento, with his long, flowing hair parted in the middle and his modest-looking doublet whose dark purple color reveals a luxurious dye. The painting was sold to a private collector by Sotheby's New York for $92.2 million.
