Waterlilies

Claude Monet explicitly designed 'Water Lilies' as an "asylum", a visual retreat for mankind who was then living through dark times after the First World War. Wishing to bring a universal message of hope and peace after the carnage of the war, Claude Monet thus represents an elementary and timeless poetic nature, void of any human presence. A bit like a Garden of Eden ignoring the atrocities committed by urban civilization.
