The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne 

Leonardo da Vinci devoted several years of his life to this ambitious religious painting. The origin of the order remains uncertain. In this scene, Leonardo da Vinci brings together three generations: the Virgin, her mother, and the baby Jesus. The lamb, meanwhile, symbolizes the sacrifice to come. In a setting that is both bucolic and alpine (a frequent decor in the artist's works), the characters share a moment of sweetness, love being visible through the play of looks. This painting underwent a major restoration in 2010, led by the Center for Research and Restoration of Museums of France, which caused controversy but undeniably restored great freshness to the colors and details.
