During the 1920s, perhaps no bandleader was more prolific in the recording studios than Sam Lanin (1891-1977). Over the span of roughly a dozen years -- from 1920 until 1931 -- Lanin directed some five hundred sessions for virtually every record company, resulting in nearly two thousand recordings. Fortunately, in Lanin's case, quantity does not preclude quantity. Lanin consistently hired the best New York studio musicians for his band; among those heard on this CD are Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Red Nichols, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Arthur Schutt, Rube Bloom, Jimmy McPartland, Miff Mole, Vic Berton, Larry Abbott, Andy Sannella, and others.
